This is a painting about embodiment.

I find myself returning again and again to these moments of suspension and relief. That liminal moment when the body knows before the mind does.

Sun Drunk is about that singular moment when nothing exists outside of the moment. She is surrounded by movement; wind, water, heat, the low hum of everything continuing on. And still, she is here.

Her face turns toward the sun, not searching, not bracing. Receiving. There may be tension in the atmosphere around her, but within her body there is surrender. A willingness to be fully within the sensation of light, warmth, and presence.

Scale mattered to me in this painting. I wanted the body to feel expansive, almost unavoidable. The saturation, the blues, the heat in the skin were built slowly, layer by layer, until the surface felt lush and charged. This is not a quiet moment, but it is a complete one.

I think we spend much of our lives reaching for experiences like this. Moments when nothing else exists outside of what we are feeling right now. Sun Drunk is a meditation on that state of being. Fully embodied. Held in the present tense.
